One of the most colourful traditions in Bulgaria is the mummer's games. Mummer's masks are diverse - from small and symbolic to very large. They are made of leather, feathers, fur and various beads and bells. Most often, the masks symbolize different animals or depict human figures - women, grandmothers and old men. My husband and I have been making mummer’s masks since 2009. The masks are original, like the ones with which mummers play. They are unique, decorated with sequins and beads. Mummers from the Thracian region of Bulgaria use such masks. In cities like Yambol, Sliven, Straldzha and others, there are annual mummer’s festivals where mummers go out and play to chase the evil away.

Mummers are dressed in folk costumes, skirts, sandals and have bells with which to scare away evil spirits and goblins. Because masks are very difficult to make, only a few people in Bulgaria deal with this. Everything is sewn by hand and each mask is unique. If you like a mask, which is not available, it can be made again but it will not be exactly the same with the other one.
